Local Graphic Designer Wins National Award
June 9, 2009
WATERLOO — Graphic designer Dana Lechtenberg of Waterloo has won a National Silver ADDY® Award for his Rudy’s Tacos Hot Sauces packaging campaign.
He traveled to Washington D.C. to accept the award at the 2009 National ADDY Awards on June 6. His work was honored alongside winning entries from some of the world’s largest and most recognized advertising agencies.
“I appreciate all the local support from my family and my industry comrades,” said Lechtenberg. “This award is truly a great honor, and it’s humbling for a small-town Iowa boy to be honored alongside the big boys from New York and Los Angeles. Go team Rudy's!”
With more than 50,000 entries annually, the three-tiered ADDY Awards are the world’s largest advertising competition. This year, out of the nearly 1,600 entries judged in the national competition, a total of 330 ADDY Awards were presented, including 100 Gold and 175 Silver for professional entries.
Lechtenberg’s packaging campaign advanced to the national level after winning Best of Show at the AAF–Cedar Valley ADDY Awards in February 2009, and then a Gold District ADDY Award at the AAF 9th District ADDY Awards in April 2009 in Dubuque.
The American Advertising Federation, a not-for-profit industry association, conducts the ADDY Awards through its 200 member advertising clubs – including AAF–Cedar Valley – and 15 districts. It is the only creative awards program administered by the advertising industry for the industry.
