Entire worlds exist online—populated with virtual alter egos who work, play, socialize and shop in a two-dimensional environment. Second Life mirrors the real world to a degree that fascinates some and frightens others.
Regardless, you know you're curious. Second Life poses entirely new opportunities and challenges to marketing professionals. Is it viable to market real-life products and services in a virtual world? Or, how do you sell something that doesn't really exist? Will traditional marketing practices work in immersive environments? What opportunities will emerge from this new arena?
Dr. Susan Wurtz, associate professor of management at UNI/Inna Greenwood, island maintenance mechanic in Second Life and Dr. Dale Cyphert, associate professor of management at UNI/Vicki Pfalz, island administrator in Second Life are part of the team that runs vIowa--a virtual space set up by the UNI College of Business Administration to explore its business potential. They'll present this exciting and interactive look at what just might be marketing's newest frontier.
